Despite their claw-like pincers, stinger, and fearsome appearance, scorpions are basically shy creatures. They will not sting humans unless they are stepped on or harassed. For most people, the sting is slightly more painful than a bee or wasp sting.
This member of the arachnid family is common in rural areas. To avoid scorpion stings, start by avoiding scorpions. They hide during the day under stones, boards, and under the loose bark of fallen trees, so be careful where you place your hands. At night, they feed on insects, spiders, centipedes and other scorpions, so eliminate their source of food and you’ll see a reduction in scorpions as well.
