Do termites eat hardwood floors? Yes! Termite damage in hardwood floors may appear as small holes, or channels, the size of a dot made by a Sharpie. Termite damage to hardwood floors is often caused by subterranean termites but may be caused by drywood termites. Soft or spongy feeling floors may also signal termite damage or dry rot damage.  Termites do not go away on their own. Simply spraying a chemical from a big box store in the holes will not kill the termite colony. You’ll just stop termites from using those particular holes (or galleries). Hardwood floors add great value to a home. By catching and controlling a termite infestation, you can preserve the value of your floors. After an inspection by a licensed termite inspector and professional termite treatment, many floor refinishers can make the damage virtually disappear.

Hardwood floor repaired

Termite damage to hardwood floors can be repaired by most floor refinishers after termites are exterminated. Repair of severe termite damage may involve removing and replacing floor boards.
