No Painting Before Termite Fumigation

Put down that brush! Don’t paint or refinish your floors right before your property is fumigated for termites.

You also don’t want to install anything that uses adhesive products with cure time, such as engineered wood flooring, vinyl flooring, or rain gutters.

The termite fumigant is introduced at cold temperatures and it draws surface moisture out of the structure. Fresh paint, although dry to the touch, isn’t fully dry for at least five days. The same is true for varnish and stain. Adhesives also need time to set properly. When moisture is drawn out of these products too quickly, water marks may result on painted and varnished surfaces and adhesion may be compromised. At a minimum, do not schedule termite fumigation for at least five days after paint, varnish, or adhesives are used. Waiting seven to ten days is even better.
